About TriDistrict Programs

TriDistrict programs have been developed locally with TriDistrict school, community, and business partners, and through TriDistrict membership in the CAPS Network.

In short, TriDistrict schools and partners are collaborating as never before in order to change the high school experience.  We are working together to support students in exploring their interests and passions, and immersing them in local business and industries.  As students learn on-site at local businessas, they develop and practice both academic and professional skills that will propel then into their future.

What is CAPS and what is the CAPS Network?

“Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) programs are nationally recognized, innovative high school programs. Students fast forward into their future and are fully immersed in a professional culture, solving real world problems, using industry standard tools and are mentored by actual employers, all while receiving high school and college credit. CAPS is an example of how business, community and public education can partner to produce personalized learning experiences that educate the workforce of tomorrow, especially in high skill, high demand jobs.” 

It is through these partnerships that the TriDistrict is proud to offer two such courses for the 2018-2019 school year.  These courses are open to all TriDistrict Juniors and Seniors that are on-track to graduate with their class.

Careers in Transportation Business and Technologies

The Careers in Transportation Business and Technologies program is an excellent
opportunity for students interested in business, entrepreneurship or a specific
career within the transportation industry (engineer, technician/mechanic, driver,
sales & marketing , mobile or towing services, parts distribution, construction, logistics, etc.).

Students in this program will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of local businesses that are regional and national leaders in transportation-related fields.
In the first half of this year-long course, students will learn directly from individuals
currently working in transportation careers. In the second half of the course, learning
will be facilitated through a hands-on internship. Students will leave this course with
an understanding of the many opportunities available and exposure to the skills
necessary for a career in the transportation industry, including:
• Service, diagnostics and repair
• Sales, marketing and advertising
• Employee recruitment, hiring, training and retention
• Customer service
• Finance and management
• Business growth and forecasting
• Warehouse, delivery, inventory and logistics

Potential student projects and activities
• Shadow a sales representative or estimator
• Observe on-site service appointments and off-site customer visits
• Attend seminars on emerging technologies and industry advancements
• Develop marketing materials and strategies
• Experience a first-hand view of the repair process from start to finish
• Gain customer service and public speaking skills
• Learn the logistics of managing a fleet of vehicles located across the midwest
• Receive career coaching and hands-on experiences before pursuing a two- or
four-year degree

Healthcare Careers and Medicine

The Healthcare Careers and Medicine program is an excellent opportunity for
students interested in business, healthcare administration or a specific career within
the medical field (doctor, nurse, veterinarian, emergency responder, lab technician,
researcher, etc.).

Students will be immersed in a hands-on learning environment led by healthcare
professionals and TriDistrict staff, and will have direct access and exposure to
authentic experiences in the field of medicine.

In the first half of this year-long course, students will learn directly from individuals
currently working in healthcare careers. In the second half of the course, learning
will be facilitated through a hands-on internship. Students will leave this course with
an understanding of the many opportunities available and exposure to the skills
necessary for a career in the healthcare industry, including:
• Healthcare systems
• Human physiology
• Medical ethics and professionalism
• Communications and medical terminology
• Patient care

Potential student projects and activities:
• Work with high schools on ways to address student anxiety
• Work with public health officials on issues of teen and public wellness
• Work with district nutrition staff on encouraging healthy eating
• Work with business partners on infection management and mitigation
• Work with business partners to improve employee recruitment and retention
